330  $aRansomware is a type of malware. Cybercriminals use ransomware as a tool to steal data and hold it hostage. They only release the data after receiving a ransom payment. Organizations most vulnerable to ransomware attacks hold sensitive data such as personal information, financial data, national security related data, and intellectual property.  In contrast to previous ransomware attacks, ransomware 3.0 not only targets victims' devices with the primary goal of encrypting them and demanding a ransom but also the cybercriminals in this case try to replace the original data with false information. For this, the attackers are more interested in the sensitive information kept on the victims' devices. The encryption operation is done after the sensitive data are obtained. Additionally, the highly skilled state-based cybercriminals can demand classified intelligence in place of a cryptocurrency ransom to maintain anonymity, which would seriously jeopardize national security. This thesis aims to suggest countermeasures and exploring effective tackling mechanisms against the advanced forms of ransomware. So, we will endeavor to develop robust automated and intelligent detection and prevention mechanisms to address the threats posed by Ransomware 3.0 and beyond.
