330  $aThis thesis describes a program debugging system that detects and explain nonsyntactic bugs in Pascal programs written to solve small but nontrival problems.The systems permits significants variability in the student solution by using heuristic methods to recogniz wich a algorihm the student used by using rewrite rules to recognize the different implementations of the selected algorithm.The system debugs the proram using a mathcing processand a production system.The matching process finds the exact location of the errors and the production system uses its to explain the errors.
