TitreBritish Foreign Policy in the Middle East and Hamas and Hezbollah Movements : A Problematic Issue
Mots clésBritish Foreign Policy; resistance movements; Hamas; Hezbollah
RésuméThis thesis examines the treatment of the resistance movements Hamas and Hezbollah in British foreign policy. For Britain, the Arab-Israeli conflict is important for historical and strategic reasons. Hamas and Hezbollah consider Israel as a 'colonist' entity and use military violence to free the Palestinian and Lebanese occupied territories. Also, both movements are active political parties that win elections and take part in the governments.British foreign policy faces a sort of diplomatic dilemma : are Hamas and Hezbollah national resistance movements or terrorist militias? This thesis studies how Britain has treated Hamas and Hezbollah in key events such as the 2006 Hamas legislative win, the 2008 Hamas-Israeli conflict, Almabhouh assassination and the 2006 Lebanese-Israeli war.
